This role will be key to delivering on Kia's ambition to be leaders in electrification and digital through the design and delivery of a new blended curriculum for our apprentice and adult technicians leading them confidently into an electrified future with Kia!


Purpose of Job:

  • Operational management responsibility for Technical and Apprentice training delivery and the day to day running of the Kia Academy Derby.

  • Design, develop and deliver a class leading Technical Training Programme with emphasis on digital and electrification for the Kia Dealer Network, including delivering technical training courses for Technicians and for KUK technical staff. Embrace industry leading learning and develop best practice to deliver engaging, relevant and effective blended content.

Main Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Management of the Kia Academy Derby site on a day to day basis including training delivery, facilities management and on site Health and Safety provision.

  • Manage the design and delivery of blended learning journeys for Apprentice, Certified, Expert and Mastertechs including new model training with strong focus on Digital and Electrification.

  • Management of on-site Kia Academy Co-Ordinator plus 1 Technical Training Assistant Manager and 2 Technical Trainers ensuring capable and sufficient resource and skills are in place to meet departmental objectives whilst following KUK P&O Managerial and performance management policies.

  • Manage the design and blended delivery of technical training courses (video, VCT, e-learning, IBT) including new model training through the Technical Training Assistant Manager and Technical Trainers.

  • Support the development and updating of new and existing technical training courses using Adobe InDesign, MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel. 

  • Manage the Kia Apprenticeship Programme and trainers in conjunction with Skillnet ensuring adequacy of curriculum, target apprentice numbers and EPA success.

  • Ensure the timely publication of the Technical training calendar and associated course information with the support of the Assistant Manager Technical Training

  • Monitor all training output, with attention to course NPS and acquired skills/knowledge retention.

  • Maintain awareness of any new KUK Technical initiatives, issues, programmes and bulletins and develop necessary training solutions to ensure effective implementation in the dealer network.

  • Participate in KUK, KHQ and KEU training courses and meetings as required including the Technical Skills World Cup competition.

  • Ensure the ongoing assessment and development of Technical Trainers.

  • Ensure that the Derby site and all equipment including technical training vehicles, tools, equipment and parts are maintained to the highest standards and updated as appropriate.

  • Oversee the day to day facilities management at Derby including cleaning, catering and maintenance operations at Kia Academy Derby with the support of KUK external FM suppliers.

Person Specification:

 

Education & Experience

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial role.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in an automotive Technical Training role.

Skills

  • Highly numerate and PC literate. MS Office advanced (Outlook/PPT/Excel).

  • Knowledge of online training development tools such as Adobe Connect, Zoom, Microsoft Teams.

  • Knowledge of learning technology e.g smart glasses, video and editing equipment. LMS experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Leadership skills.

  • Self-starter, motivated, driven and with a desire to learn.

  • Competent Project and Stakeholder Management skills.

  • Ability to interpret and present complex data.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Full Driving License.
